HARRISONBURG, Va. – On Tuesday morning, James Madison head baseball coach
Marlin Ikenberry announced that
Jimmy Jackson has been elevated to the role of Associate Head Coach. Jackson is heading into his fifth season as the Dukes' pitching coach.

"I am excited for Jimmy in this promotion," said Ikenberry. "Jimmy has done an outstanding job with our pitching staff, as well as all the other responsibilities that come with this promotion. He embodies the standards that we have set for JMU Baseball and the mission of JMU Athletics. I am excited about our growth and continued success."
In his four previous seasons with the Dukes, Jackson has had seven of his players reach the professional ranks by way of the MLB Draft or free agent signings. Since taking over in 2016, the JMU staff has helped drop the pitching staff ERA from 7.33 the season prior to Jackson's arrival to 3.69 during the 2019 campaign. The Dukes staff, under Jackson's command, also shattered the single season strikeouts record as a team with 553 and batting average against at .232 last season.

Following a successful year in the bullpen, the Dukes led the state in pitchers drafted with four.

th Round, Los Angeles Dodgers),
Shelton Perkins (16
th Round, Baltimore Orioles),
Dan Goggin (17
th Round, New York Mets) and
Kevin Kelly (19
th Round, Cleveland Indians) were all selected in the 2019 MLB Entry Draft and have impressed in their first season.
"I'm very thankful for this opportunity and for the confidence that Coach Ikenberry has shown in me," said Jackson. "We're building something special here at JMU and I'm very excited for the chance to continue that work heading into this season."
The Dukes open their 2020 campaign this weekend, traveling to Raleigh, N.C. for a three-game set at NC State beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
