HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison women's tennis returned home in a dominate fashion, taking down UNCG 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the East Campus Tennis Courts.
The Dukes won all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches, improving their record to 5-2. The Spartans record dropped to 1-5 with Saturday's loss.
Senior Jona Roka and sophomore Daria Afanasyeva had a decisive 6-0 win over Sophia Adams and Brianna Gomez, marking the second straight doubles win for the pair. Sophomore tandem Daniela Voloh and Natalia Nikolopoulou took down Erika Barquero and Hanna Giddings 6-1, securing the doubles point for the Dukes. The sophomore pair of Amanda Nord and Kylie Moulin beat Tayah Cross and Ariana Chan, 6-2, to round out doubles play, to make it a 1-0 match lead for the Dukes. Both sophomore pairs won their third straight doubles match.
Afanasyeva rolled in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 6-0 over Adams at No. 2 singles, capturing the first singles point for the Dukes. Moulin, who moved to No. 3 singles, forced a third set, winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 against Gomez to extend the lead to 3-0. Both Afanasyeva and Moulin improved their singles win streaks to six straight with their wins against the Spartans.
Roka battled in the third set to take the 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 decision from Barquero at No. 1 singles. Roka's win clinched the match for the Dukes, as they led UNCG 4-0 at that point. Voloh also forced a third set in her match at No. 4 singles, in which she rallied to win 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7).
Nord fought to win the second set, before dropping her match by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 0-1 (4) to Chan at the No. 6 spot . Nikolopoulou closed out the day for the Dukes at No. 5 singles, as she took down Camacho 6-2, 7-5.

"This was a good match today. UNCG really made us work in singles and I think we did a good job of being ready to work on every court from the first point until the last. Daria is playing better and better each week and helped give us some quick momentum with her match. We are looking forward to putting our experiences today into our matches next weekend."
UP NEXT
The Dukes head to College Park, Md., on Saturday, Feb. 22 for their match against Maryland. The match is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
