Békéscsaba, Hungary – James Madison outside hitter
M'Kaela White signed with five-time national champion Team BRSE in the Hungarian A1 League, becoming the first JMU volleyball player to sign a professional contract.
Â
White, a Riverdale, Md. native, has played in 97 matches for the Dukes appearing in every match since her sophomore season. She is on four of JMU's all-time top-10 lists, holding the No. 1 spots on block average (1.34) and hitting percentage (.346).
Â
"Being late to the game, I've always had to play catch up with my peers and was seen as the risk everyone had to take chances on," said White. Â "I couldn't be more grateful to
Lauren Steinbrecher and her entire coaching staff for taking that risk and developing me into the player I am today."
Â
For her career with the Dukes she is a two-time All-CAA First Team selection, three-time VaSID All-State First Team, 2019 AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention and a member of the USA Collegiate National Team her junior season.
Â
"I am so proud of M'Kaela," said head coach
Lauren Steinbrecher. "She has worked hard to put herself in a position to make money playing the game she loves. This is only the beginning for her... M'Kaela still has so much potential at the next level. I can't wait to see what all she accomplishes internationally."
In her final season at JMU, White helped the Dukes reach four consecutive CAA Championship matches. She recorded 293.5 points averaging 3.16 per set, and an attacking percentage of .329.
Â
"This has always been a dream of mine…" said White "…and now I have no plans of stopping. To the entire JMU Nation and everyone who's been in my corner every step of the way, I will NOT let you down!"
