NEWARK, Del. -Â The James Madison field hockey team fell to Delaware, 3-1, in the conference championship game after a relentless effort Sunday afternoon at the Fred P. Rullo field.

The Dukes fell to 12-7 on the season while the Blue Hens improved to 12-8.

JMU held Delaware scoreless in the first quarter after facing seven shots, with goalie
Florien Marcussen making two saves.

Delaware led 2-0 at the half and scored once more in the third to extend its lead to 3-0. The Dukes had a pair of goals disallowed, however,
Eveline Zwager answered with a goal across the net late in the third.

The Dukes kept the pressure on in the fourth, but couldn't muster any more scores, falling by a pair of goals to the Blue Hens.

The Hens held 15-11 advantage in shots and 7-5 edge on penalty corners. JMU had more shots on goal, with a 9-7 lead on the hosts.
