Thornton Named DC Touchdown Club Player of the Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. – James Madison wide receiver Kris Thorntonwas honored as the DC Touchdown Club Washington Metro College Football Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

Thornton set a JMU single-game record with four touchdown receptions to lead JMU to a 51-14 Homecoming win against Campbell this past Saturday.

A former standout at Osbourn High School in Manassas, he finished with eight receptions for a season-best 142 yards, which was his second 100-yard game of the season. It was also the most receiving yards for Thornton since he transferred to JMU from VMI. His four receiving scores was also a conference single-game best this season and tied for the second most in a game by any player nationally.

Thornton had entered last week's game with five receiving touchdowns, and adding in his four, he now leads the conference with nine in 2021. He also paces the league with 6.6 receptions per contest and is second with 78.3 receiving yards per contest.

This is Thornton's second career weekly honor, joining his conference offensive player of the week laurel last spring.

The third-ranked Dukes return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13 when they travel to Williamsburg to face #25 William & Mary. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Zable Stadium.
