James Madison Ranked in Preseason Top 20 by USA Lacrosse

SPARKS, Md. – James Madison lacrosse has been given the No. 12 national ranking in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I Women's Preseason Top 20, as released by USA Lacrosse Magazine on Monday.

The No. 12 spot matches the Dukes' ranking in the final IWLCA coaches poll of the 2021 season, and also matches the Early 2022 Rankings released by USA Lacrosse Magazine in September. Defending national champion Boston College took the top spot in Monday's poll.

JMU's preseason recognition comes after a 12-5 season in 2021, in which the Dukes once again reached the NCAA tournament. The Dukes won seven straight games before falling to North Carolina in the second round.

USA Lacrosse Magazine previously recognized redshirt junior Rachel Matey and redshirt senior Molly Dougherty as Third Team Preseason All-Americans on Dec. 20.

The Dukes will face six opponents in 2022 who were also ranked in the Top 20: North Carolina (No. 2), Maryland (No. 6), Virginia (No. 11), Rutgers (No. 16), Drexel (No. 17), and UConn (No. 19).
