Molly Dougherty has been named IWLCA Division I National Defensive Player of the Week, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced.

Dougherty is fresh off being selected as the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Performer after helping the Dukes win their record fourth straight Colonial Athletic Association tournament title.

In JMU's two victories, she recorded 29 saves with a 9.5 goals against average and a .604 save percentage. On Friday, she made 13 stops with a .650 save percentage in JMU's 14-7 semifinal win against Hofstra.

She followed that up by making a season-high 16 saves with a .571 save percentage and four ground balls in the Dukes' 13-12 overtime victory versus Drexel. That included making two saves in the extra period to set up JMU's game-winning goal.

Entering this week's NCAA Championship, Dougherty ranks seventh nationally this season with a .525 save percentage and eighth with an 8.44 GAA.

#20 JMU opens NCAA play in Friday's first round against #14 Johns Hopkins. The opening draw is set for a 5 p.m. start at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.
