HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison, which had an open week between the regular-season finale and the upcoming conference championship, rose one spot to #20 in the latest IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association announced on Monday.

It's the third straight week JMU has been ranked in a vote by the nation's coaches.

JMU (9-4), winners of four straight to end the regular season, was awarded the No. 2 seed for the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Lacrosse Championship, which the Dukes will host May 5-9 at Sentara Park.

The Dukes, who finished with a 3-1 conference record and also went 1-1 in non-conference play against CAA North division members, averaged 13.38 goals per game while conceding 8.15 to the opposition.

Nationally, JMU ranks seventh in scoring defense, ninth in assists per game (8.08) and 11th in saves percentage (.495). It also leads the CAA in caused turnovers per game (9.38) and draw control percentage (.564).

North Carolina (18-0), winners of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, claimed all 25 first-place votes and the poll's top spot. Following the Tar Heels were #2 Northwestern (13-0), #3 Syracuse (14-3), #4 Boston College (13-3) and #5 Notre Dame (9-6).

JMU was one of three CAA schools to be ranked heading into the CAA Championship, as Drexel (12-1) was eighth and Hofstra (6-5) entered at #25. JMU also received votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Division I Top 20.

This week, #20 JMU hosts the 2021 CAA Championship at Sentara Park.

On Wednesday, May 5, No. 4 seed Elon faces No. 5 seed Towson in the opening round. That winner will take on top-seeded Drexel Friday, May 7 at 4 p.m., with the Dukes and Pride facing off in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. The championship game will take place Sunday, May 9 at noon.
