Jazmon Gwathmey and
Jackie Benitez are currently playing for the Puerto Rico National Team at the 2021 Women's AmeriCup hosted in Puerto Rico.

Gwathmey played for the Dukes from 2012-2016 and placed her name all over the record books. She sits third all-time in career blocks (173), sixth in games played (136), sixth in games started (120) and ninth in field goals made (581) including the third-most buckets in a season (251, 2015-16).

The Dukes won three CAA Championships led by Gwathmey as she was named the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player all three title runs. In her final season she was named the CAA Player of the Year and earned a spot on the CAA All-Defensive Team for the second time in her career.

Benitez transferred to JMU to play her final two seasons of collegiate ball from 2018-2020. In her first season with JMU she earned the CAA Sixth Player of the Year award and was named to the All-CAA Third Team. The following season, Benitez landed on the All-CAA Second Team after averaging 13.4 points (second on team) and 1.6 steals (led the team) per game.

The 2021 Women's AmeriCup wrapped up group play and is now set for the quarterfinals tonight. Puerto Rico went 2-1 in group play to advance to the eight-team quarterfinals. The top four teams will advance to the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifiers which is the first step of attending the 2022 World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

Gwathmey's best performance in group play came in the 88-50 win over Venezuela where she posted a game-best 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting (66.7%) alongside three rebounds, two assists, a pair of steals and two blocks in 15 minutes of action.

Benitez posted a solid performance in the 79-54 win over Dominican Republic as she scored 13 points on 50 percent shooting (5-10) with a rebound and an assist.

Gwathmey, Benitez and the Puerto Rico National Team is set to take on Colombia in the quarterfinals tonight at 5:10 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as the rest of the AmeriCup.
