HARRISONBURG, Va. -
Will Hurt has joined the James Madison men's golf program as an assistant coach for the 2021-22 season, as announced by head coach
Carter Cheves on Friday afternoon.
Â
"I am thrilled to have Coach Hurt joining our program," Cheves said. "He's knowledgeable and brings an infectious energy and enthusiasm for coaching to Harrisonburg. This is an exciting time for JMU Golf and we look forward to all of Will's contributions."
Â
Hurt comes to JMU after two seasons as a graduate assistant for the men's and women's golf teams at Berry College, where he was named the 2019-20 WGCA D3 Assistant Coach of the Year last season. In addition to helping the programs rack up seven Academic All-American honors, he helped lead the men's team to a No. 12 national ranking and the women's team to No. 3 in all of Division III.
Â
"I'm very excited to join the JMU and Harrisonburg communities," Hurt said. "Both have meant a lot to my family and this is a great opportunity to help build upon what Coach Cheves has done here. I look forward to helping bring some CAA titles back to Harrisonburg - JMU Golf has a rich history and tradition that I look forward to helping continue to grow! Go Dukes!"
Â
Hurt also has experience as a tournament coordinator and administrator with the Tennessee Golf Association and Tennessee Golf Foundation and also has served as a caddy on the Korn Ferry Tour since 2017. While coaching this past season, Hurt earned an MBA from Berry after completing his undergraduate work at Carson-Newman University in 2019.
Â
The Dukes will return nearly their entire roster for the 2021-22 season, their second under Cheves.
