Anshelm Earns Second Straight CAA Defensive Player of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. — For the second week in a row, James Madison defender Melker Anshelm has earned Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday morning.

The Dukes moved to 7-2, 3-0 CAA, as it is the third consecutive week a JMU player has been named CAA Defensive Player of the Week.

Anshelm began the week being instrumental in the Dukes' first win over in-state rival Virginia since 1980. Anshelm anchored a back line that held Virginia to only seven total shots. He then solidified JMU's fifth shutout of the season as he scored the game-winning goal in the 109th minute.

The CAA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year then led the Dukes to their sixth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win at Elon. JMU has yet to concede a goal in conference play, and they have not allowed a goal in a regular season conference match in the last 469:11.

The Dukes will return to action tomorrow, Sept. 28 as they remain on the road with a matchup against George Washington at 2 p.m.
