FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Former James Madison baseball standout Jake Lowery has been named the manager of the Fredericksburg Nationals for the upcoming 2022 season, as announced by the Washington Nationals Tuesday morning.
Â
Lowery will become the second manager in FredNats history, who are the Low-A affiliate of the Nationals. Joining the staff with Lowery will be hitting coach Delwyn Young, pitching coach Joel Hanrahan, developmental coach Carmelo Jaime, athletic trainer Kirby Craft, and strength and conditioning coach Ryan Grose.
Â
Lowery began his managerial career a season ago, as he led the Rookie-level FCL Nationals. Before trading in the cleats for a lineup card, Lowery spent the final four years of his nine-year professional career in the Nationals organization as he reached the Triple-A level in 2018. He had spent the previously five years in the Cleveland Indians organization after they drafted him in the 2011 Draft in the fourth round.
Â
Prior to going pro, Lowery left a legacy at James Madison. In 2011, he was named the Conference Player of the Year as well as the Johnny Bench National Catcher of the Year as he helped lead the Dukes to a conference title. The last JMU player to be named an All-American, he holds the single-season program records for home runs, RBI's, and extra base hits as well as being in the top ten for at-bats, hits, and runs scored. In addition, he is fourth in career triples and tenth in career home runs.
Â
Lowery makes his FredNats debut at Delmarva on Friday, April 8. The FredNats will then host the Carolina Mudcats for their home opener on Tuesday, April 12.
