WILMINGTON, N.C. — Sophomore
Annalicia Goodman scored an easy layup in the final seconds to push the James Madison women's basketball team past UNCW Friday afternoon at Trask Coliseum. The Dukes won 57-56 and improved their record to 8-9 (3-2 CAA) while the Seahawks fell to 3-10 (0-3 CAA).

JMU led by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, but UNCW continued to claw their way back before taking a 54-53 lead at 4:00 in the fourth. The Seahawks held a one-point lead until Goodman's bucket with 18 seconds remaining.

The Dukes were led by
Kiki Jefferson's impressive stat line of 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.

Statistically Speaking
- JMU dished out a season-high 17 assists.

Brianna Tinsley tied Jefferson with a team-best four assists.

Jaylin Carodine led JMU on the boards with nine rebounds.
- Goodman finished with 12 points on 6-of-9 (66.6%) shooting.
- The Dukes recorded a field goal percentage of 46.9% (23-49) and tied their season-best three-point percentage of 41.2% (7-12).
- Jefferson ended the day shooting 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the floor and 2-of-3 (66.6%) from three-point range. The guard is now just 31 points away from surpassing the 1,000-point milestone.
First Quarter: UNCW 19, JMU 15
- The Dukes controlled much of the first quarter as they held a 15-9 lead at 3:40 following a layup by Goodman.
- UNCW answered with a 10-0 run at end of quarter to go up 19-15.

Madison Green went 2-of-3 from three, while the Dukes shot 3-of-5 (60%) from three.
- Despite trailing by four after the first 10 minutes, the Dukes shot 54.5% from floor, while UNCW shot 47.1%.
Second Quarter: JMU 31, UNCW 24
- JMU held UNCW to just five points in the second stanza. Â
- The Dukes held the Seahawks scoreless until the 5:51 mark when UNCW tied it up at 21 with a layup.
- James Madison then went on a 10-3 run to end the quarter with a seven-point lead.

Third Quarter: JMU 45, UNCW 42
- JMU opened the third frame on a 7-2 run before UNCW called a timeout at 5:33.
- The Seahawks came out of the huddle and went on an 8-0 run to cut the Dukes lead 38-34.
- The teams traded buckets until UNCW scored at the buzzer to stay within three points.
- Jefferson scored 12 of her 20 points in the third, shooting 4-of-6 from the floor and a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.
Fourth Quarter: JMU 57, UNCW 56
- UNCW used a three-pointer at 5:58 to tie the game at 51.
- Goodman responded with a layup, but another triple from the Seahawks at 3:18 gave UNCW their first lead since the second quarter.
- With under 25 seconds left to play,
Jamia Hazell drove down the lane before passing to a wide-open Goodman on the block for the easy bucket to put the Dukes back on top for good.
