NEW ORLEANS – James Madison quarterback Todd Centeio has been selected to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2022, as he was one of 40 FBS quarterbacks to earn the distinction from the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
This designation makes Centeio eligible to be voted one of 16 semifinalists for the 2022 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
Centeio has completed 121-of-189 passes for 1,780 yards, 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions, giving him a passer rating of 168.58. He has also rushed 60 times for 388 yards and five scores.
Centeio's performances helped the Dukes to a 5-1 start in games he's played in, and he set a program record in the only defeat, throwing for 468 yards at Georgia Southern to break Vad Lee's previous mark of 433.
Entering this week, Centeio ranks top 15 nationally in six categories. He's third in point responsibility per game (22.3), fourth in total offense (352.2), sixth in yards per completion (14.71), seventh in yards per attempt (9.42), ninth in pass efficiency rating (168.6) and 13th in passing yards per game (296.7).
In addition to his recognition for the O'Brien Award, Centeio was also named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award on Oct. 12 and to the midseason watch list for the Manning Award on Oct. 28.
For the third straight year, the Davey O'Brien Fan Vote will take place on its @DaveyOBrien Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts. Round one of the fan vote begins today and will continue through Nov. 11. The top-five vote getters on each of the three social media platforms will receive bonus committee votes, which will be added to the ballots cast by the National Selection Committee.
The committee will announce 16 semifinalists on Nov. 15 and three finalists on Nov. 29. The winner will be unveiled on Dec. 8 at The Home Depot College Football Awards.
