LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Former James Madison quarterback Ben DiNucci was drafted into the XFL on Tuesday, being selected by Head Coach Jim Haslett and the Seattle Sea Dragons.
DiNucci, a 2019 AFCA First Team All-American, was one of most efficient passers in the FCS during his two seasons with the Dukes (2018-19).
During his senior season, he led the country with a 70.9% completion percentage while also ranking second in pass efficiency (169.5), sixth in yards per attempt (9.1) and 11th in passing touchdowns (29).
He was voted 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year after throwing for 3,441 yards and 29 touchdowns with just six interceptions. He also rushed for 569 yards and seven scores to finish the year with 4,010 yards of total offense. He threw for over 200 yards in 11 games and completed better than 75% of his passes eight times. He also scored three or more touchdowns in six games.
As of 2022, DiNucci ranks top-10 at JMU in four career categories, including tied for fourth in completions (479), fifth in both passing yards (5,716) and passing touchdowns (45) and eighth in total offense (6,718).
Prior to the XFL, DiNucci was seventh-round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons with the Cowboys, appearing in three games with one start.
The XFL Draft continues Wednesday, Nov. 16 and Thursday, Nov. 17.
