GENEVA, N.Y. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced the members of the 2022 NFHCA Division I All-Regional teams on Tuesday and named seniorÂ
Eveline Zwager to the South Region First Team and classmates
Diede Remijnse and
Kara McClure to the South Region Second Team.
Â
This is the third year in a row two or more Dukes have received All-Region honors in the season, with Zwager and Reminjse earning first and second team honors last year, respectively. Moreover, this was the first time since 2014 that three Dukes earned all-region status. Other than 2018, there has been at least one JMU student-athlete named to one of the All-Region teams every year since head coachÂ
Christy Morgan returned to the helm in 2014.
Â
Zwager had an exceptional season in James Madison's first year as an independent program. After scoring one goal in the team's first six games, the senior went on a tear, registering 11 points in the next four games, including three straight game-winning goals. The forward was even better late in the season with 14 points in the final six games, highlighted by a hat trick at UC Davis on Oct. 21. The forward led the team in points (27), game-winning goals (5), and tied for the most goals (10) with Remijnse.
Â
As a midfielder for the Dukes, Remijnse showcased her defensive and offensive skills all season. The captain tallied 20 points (10 goals), produced three multi-goal games, and was credited with two game-winning goals. Remijnse was a great asset on defense as well, recording a defensive save against #13 Syracuse to help send the game into overtime.
Â
McClure was a major asset on defense and a key member of the Dukes' penalty corners. McClure tallied a team-best 13 assists, an average of .76 per game. Moreover, her .76 assists per game average are fifth in the nation. Additionally, the senior wrapped up her career with 25 points, tying for 11th in program history. In 2022, she recorded four games with multiple assists, highlighted by three in a 6-2 win versus Bucknell on Aug. 28.
Â
Division I teams are separated into five regions: Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Northeast, South and West — each region honors up to 16 student-athletes on a first team and up to 16 student-athletes on a second team.
