HARRISONBURG, Va. – After announcing that the program will be competing in the Sun Belt Conference in April, James Madison men's soccer has unveiled their full schedule for the 2022 season, as announced by Head Coach Paul Zazenski on Wednesday afternoon.
The 55th season of men's soccer at JMU will feature the Dukes hosting five non-conference games and traveling for three more, in addition to facing off against arguably the best conference in the country.
"The fall 2022 slate will be as challenging as ever," said Zazenski. "We are excited to welcome these new challenges both in non-conference play, as well as the newly formed Sun Belt, and we feel as if this schedule lends itself to be one of the best and toughest schedules in the country. We know we must mentally and physically prepare for the tests ahead and we are confident in our group to do so. We are a veteran-led team and will need that experience to shine through in order to achieve high levels of success both on and off the field. A new chapter of JMU men's soccer is upon us and we are motivated to start off in a positive way!"
The Dukes will kick off the season with their annual Fairfield by Marriott Invitational, hosting soon-to-be former Colonial Athletic Association foe Drexel and America East squads Binghamton and NJIT. JMU will take on Binghamton on Aug. 25 and NJIT on Aug. 28.
They will then hit the roads for a pair of 2021 rematches against ACC teams, facing Virginia in a highly anticipated match on Sept. 1 and then traveling south to Raleigh on Sept. 13 for a match with NC State.
Sentara Park will host the 2019 national champion on Sept. 20, as Georgetown comes down to play. That match will be followed by home games against George Washington (Sept. 28) and Gardner-Webb (Oct. 8) before closing out the non-conference portion at American (Oct. 11).
The conference portion of the schedule will see the Dukes take on three teams that were in the top-15 of the final coaches poll. Sun Belt play will begin at home on Sept. 17 against Georgia State, with additional home games against Kentucky (Oct. 1), West Virginia (Oct. 19) and Coastal Carolina (Oct. 28).
The Dukes will then be on the road to face Old Dominion (Sept. 25), Georgia Southern (Oct. 14) and South Carolina (Oct. 23) before capping the regular season on Nov. 1 at Marshall, the 2020 national champion.
The 2022 Sun Belt Men's Soccer Championship will be held on Nov. 14-20 at a location that will be determined at a later time.
