"Denise has been the backbone of JMU Athletics with her dedicated service," Bourne said. "She works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that we are operating efficiently, communicating effectively and maximizing opportunities. "I am grateful to Mr. Bourne for this opportunity and for the confidence he has placed in me to help lead our department through this position," Lough said. "JMU continues to grow and really has become a national brand and model institution, highlighted by our recent transition to the Sun Belt Conference. There's certainly a lot of excitement here at JMU, and I am really honored to be a part of it."

Outside of JMU Athletics, she held previous positions with JMU human resources and as a paralegal.
