JMU to Host National Girls & Women in Sports Day Event on Feb. 11

HARRISONBURG, Va. – On Saturday, Feb. 11, James Madison Athletics will celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day presented by Valley Mall to encourage local girls to engage in physical activity, foster teamwork and a healthy lifestyle. The event will be held in Gym A at Godwin Hall from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

This service event brings the Harrisonburg community together with JMU's female student-athletes to showcase the positive results sports can achieve. Members from various JMU women's teams will be present to guide participants through stations involving drills for their sports. Additionally, participants will have a chance to hear from coaches and student-athletes about the impact sports have had on their lives.

Registration is available now, and the clinic is open to all girls currently in kindergarten through eighth grade. The $15 registration fee covers admission to the clinic and a game ticket to women's basketball vs. Arkansas State that day at 4 p.m. Participants who are registered by January 24th will also receive a National Girls and Women in Sports day t-shirt. Parents can register their children online at the event page linked here. Registration will close at 5 pm on Friday, Feb. 10. Additional discounted women's basketball game tickets can be purchased by calling the JMU Ticket Office at 540-568-3853 or on the day of the game at the ticket office.

Fans will be responsible for transportation to both events. Public parking will be available at both Godwin Hall and the Ballard Parking Deck near the Atlantic Union Bank Center.

ABOUT NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY
National Girls & Women in Sports Day is in its 37th year of honoring the accomplishments of female athletes and encouraging continued participation in sports by girls and women. The celebration began in 1987 as a single event to honor former Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman and has grown to a celebration across all 50 states. This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of Title IX's passing, the landmark legislation that paved the way for female athletics at all levels. JMU Athletics is proud to carry on the message of this empowering day.
