HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Sun Belt Conference football media have honored two James Madison standouts with weekly honors, as  defensive lineman
Jalen Green was voted Defensive Player of the Week, while punter
Ryan Hanson was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Â
Green tied the JMU single-game record with 5.0 sacks in JMU's 20-9 win Thursday at Marshall. He had six total tackles and a career-high 5.5 tackles for loss. It was the first five-sack performance in the FBS in nearly three years and just the seventh over the past decade. Green currently leads the country with 13.0 sacks and 18.0 tackles for loss.
Â
Hanson had a career night on special teams, pinning all seven of his punts inside the 20. Averaging 40.4 yards per punt, six of his seven were downed inside the 10 and three were stopped at the one. The best starting field position Marshall had after a Hanson punt was its own 11 and the Herd averaged its own 16 for the entire game.
Â
This honor is in addition to their national awards they received Sunday from College Football Network, as Green was named CFN Defensive Player of the Week, and Hanson took home CFN Co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Â
JMU has now won four Sun Belt weekly honors, as the duo join
Aiden Fisher (Sept. 11) and
Camden Wise (Sept. 18), who each won Special Teams Player of the Week earlier this season.
Â
#25 JMU is back home on Saturday, Oct. 28 when it hosts Old Dominion for Homecoming. Kickoff from Bridgeforth Stadium is set for 8 p.m., and the game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
