NEW ORLEANS – Two James Madison baseball student-athletes were represented on the 2023 All-Sun Belt Conference Team, as graduate
Jack Cone and sophomore
Fenwick Trimble were named to the Second Team in a vote by the head coaches, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Â
Cone was named as a utility after solidifying the leadoff spot in the batting order with the third highest batting average on the team, at .327. The starting center fielder for the Dukes played in all 53 games with 52 starts, knocking in 29 runs while scoring 45 himself. He hit a triple and homered five times while tallying 19 doubles for second best on the team. The Fairfax Station, Va. native also drew 39 walks and stole 14 bases.
Â
Cone also spent time on the mound, making 10 appearances with eight starts across 28.2 innings. He struck out 20 batters while putting together a 3-2 record.
Â
Honored as a Second Team outfielder, Trimble has put on a show in his sophomore campaign. Across the conference, he ranks tied for second in doubles (22), tied for third in runs scored (62) and hits (76), sixth in OPS (1.122), eighth in on-base percentage (.463), ninth in slugging percentage (.659) and 10th in batting average (.355). His 22 doubles are tied for the sixth most in JMU single-season history. He has the most doubles and hits (76) for a Duke since 2011 and the most RBI's (52) and runs scored since 2013. With one more home run, he would have 14 on the season and the most on the team since 2011.
