Former Duke Liam Fornadel Named to 2023 All-XFL Team

ARLINGTON, Texas – Ahead of the XFL Championship Game this weekend, former James Madison offensive lineman Liam Fornadel was selected to the 2023 All-XFL Team, the league office announced Monday.

Fornadel and the D.C. Defenders went 9-1 during the regular season and won the North Division title with a 37-21 victory against the Seattle Sea Dragons back on April 30.

The former FCS All-American served as D.C.'s starting right guard, aiding the Defenders in leading the league in eight team categories during the regular season. That included tops in rushing yards (1,408), rushing touchdowns (15), total touchdowns (33), two-point conversions (18), rushes of 10+ yards (41), yards per pass attempt (8.0), yards per catch (13.0) and fewest interceptions (4).

The Defenders were also second on both third down (46.8%) and fourth down (62.5%), tied for second in yards per rush (4.4) and tied for third in passing scores (18). D.C. averaged nearly 350 yards of total offense per game as well.

In the divisional championship round, D.C. gained 381 yards of offense, led by 299 through the air to advance. Its passing yardage leads all teams in the postseason, while total yards is second to the Arlington Renegades.

Next up for Fornadel and the Defenders is a matchup against the Renegades in the XFL Championship Game, which will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The game is set for Saturday, May 13 at 8 p.m. ET and will be nationally televised on ABC.
