Dukes Dominate Doubles Play, Win Two Flights at Elon Fall Invitational

ELON, N.C. – James Madison claimed a pair of doubles flight titles and won a total of 16 matches to complete play at the Elon Fall Invitational, which was held Sept. 22 and 24 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

The tandem of Cate Broerman and Daria Munteanu won the Gold doubles flight, while the team of Hayley Glen and Reka Matko won the Powell doubles flight.

JMU went 8-1 overall in doubles play and 8-10 in singles matches. Highlighting singles play were Hope Moulin and Munteanu, who each went 2-1 individually.

The Dukes competed in two rounds of doubles and a round of singles on Friday, while finishing with one round of doubles and two singles rounds for some athletes Sunday. Saturday's competition was washed out due to inclement weather.

The field included players from Elon, N.C. Central, Campbell, Emory, ETSU, Virginia Tech and ECU.

"Our team did a great job taking what we learned last weekend and applying it to their play at Elon. We've done a good job improving aspects of our doubles play, resulting in wins in all but one doubles match. We're also continuing to make strides on the singles side. Overall, it was a good weekend of tennis. The girls are buying into the system, and we took another step forward this weekend."
