HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison quarterback
Jordan McCloud was recognized by a pair of national organizations for his performance in the Dukes' win at Utah State, as he was selected to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 and the Manning Award Stars of the Week.
McCloud was 23-of-34 for 364 passing yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions while rushing for 26 yards and a pair of scores in JMU's 45-38 win Saturday night at Utah State. The win moved the Dukes' record to 4-0 after completing a three-game road stretch.
The six total touchdowns were a career high for McCloud, while his four passing touchdowns and two rushing scores tied his respective career highs. His passing numbers were all season highs through four games. Five of his six touchdowns occurred in the first half, allowing JMU to mount a 24-point lead in Logan.
The Davey O'Brien Great 8, sponsored by the Davey O'Brien Foundation, enacted a "daily double," honoring a total of 16 quarterbacks for their play in week four. With his inclusion to this week's award, McCloud has been added to the midseason watch list for the 2023 Davey O'Brien Award, which honors the nation's top quarterback.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl honored its eight quarterbacks as Manning Award "Stars of the Week." A fan vote on social media (@ManningAward) will determine the best performance by a quarterback from this past week. The Manning Award was named in honor of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
McCloud is JMU's second quarterback to be honored by both organizations, joining
Todd Centeio, who garnered multiple awards from each in 2022.
McCloud and the Dukes return home to Bridgeforth Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 30 to host South Alabama on Family Weekend. Kickoff is set for noon, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
