DALLAS, Texas – James Madison women's basketball alumna Tamera "Ty" Young ('08) will compete professionally in season three of Athletes Unlimited, which will begin on Thursday, at Fair Park Coliseum in Dallas, Texas.
Â
Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball brings 40 world-class athletes together for four weeks of playoff intensity competition in which teams are redrafted each week. Each week, the top four players on the leaderboard serve as team captains and draft their new teams.Â
Â
While the teams play each other every week, there is a running leaderboard that counts for each player individually. Athletes can earn points in three ways: 1) When their team wins a game or quarter, 2) When they make a positive play on the court or they may lose points for a negative play or error and 3) When they are voted one of the top 3 MVPs of a game by players and fans.
Â
At the end of the season, the athlete who sits atop the leaderboard is the champion. All games take place at Fair Park Coliseum between Feb. 29 and March 23. Fans can watch Young play for Team Mitchell at 9 p.m. ET on the WNBA App and KTXA-TVÂ (Dallas).
This season marks Young's third with Athletes Unlimited after a 12-year career in the WNBA. The former Duke became the first player to be drafted in program history, being selected No. 8 overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2008. The Wilmington, N.C. native appeared in 372 games, making 208 starts across her time with the Dream, Chicago Sky and Las Vegas Aces.
Â
While in Harrisonburg, Young earned Associated Press All-America distinction, joining Dawn Evans and Meredith Alexis as the only other JMU players to receive the honor. The 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and three-time All-CAA selection finished her collegiate career with the most steals in program history (275), second-most rebounds (1,127) and third-most points (2,121).
