NEW ORLEANS - James Madison turned in its best regular-season record in program history to earn a double-bye and the No. 2 seed for the 2024 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship.
The Sun Belt Championship will be held March 5-11 at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla.
The Dukes completed the 2023-24 regular season with a 28-3 overall record and 15-3 ledger in conference play. It is the most wins a JMU team has won in the regular season in program history, and the second-consecutive season with 20-plus wins.
App State (26-5, 16-2 SBC) claimed the outright regular-season championship and top seed. Following JMU in the top four were No. 3 seed Troy (20-11, 13-5 SBC) and No. 4 seed Arkansas State (16-15, 11-7 SBC).
JMU is seeking both its first conference tournament crown and automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship since the 2012-13 season.
The Dukes open postseason action on Saturday, March 9 at 8:30 p.m. ET in the fourth and final quarterfinal matchup. They will face either No. 7 seed Georgia State (14-16, 8-10 SBC) or No. 10 seed Marshall (12-19, 7-11 SBC).
During the regular season, JMU swept the seasons series against both GSU and Marshall, including a win at Marshall and at Georgia State as a part of its four-game road stretch to finish the regular season.
The men's first-round games take place on Tuesday, March 5 with second-round contests on Thursday, March 7. The men's quarterfinals take place Saturday, March 9 with semifinals on Sunday, March 10. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. ET on Monday, March 11.
Game in the first round through semifinals will be streamed on ESPN+ with the championship game televised nationally by ESPN2.
