HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison had two matches go three sets while two others went to tiebreaks, as the Dukes battled past Louisiana for a 4-1 Sun Belt Conference women's tennis victory Saturday afternoon at East Campus Tennis Courts.
The Dukes improved to 6-6 on the season and 2-1 in Sun Belt play, while the Ragin' Cajuns dropped to 4-6 and 1-3.
Cate Broerman and
Hope Moulin each went 2-0 on the day, while
Daria Munteanu earned a singles triumph to aid the Dukes. Moulin secured the clinching point for JMU in come-from-behind fashion as well.
JMU won the match by taking a pair of doubles matches and three of four completed singles bouts.
JMU improved to 2-0 all-time against Louisiana, with today's win joining its 5-2 victory in Lafayette, La., back on March 12, 2023.

Doubles Play
- JMU took the early 1-0 lead after registering victories on courts two and three.
- The duo of Broerman and Alexandra Prudentedominated play, cruising past Paige Duncan and Jenaila Prulla, 6-2.
- A back-to-back battle occurred on court three until the JMU doubles pairing of Reka Matko and Moulinpulled away to defeat Kamea Medora and Nina Krecklenberg, 6-4.
- On court one, Munteanu and Ines Oliveira led Angelique Berratt and Carla Urchoeguia, 5-4.
Singles Play
- JMU was quick to doubles its lead to 2-0, as Broerman won in straight sets versus Medora on court three, at 6-3, 6-1.
- The lead stretched to 3-0 over on court one, where Munteanu squeezed by Urchoeguia in the first set with a tiebreak win before cruising in the second, winning the match by scores of 7-6 (4), 6-3.
- On court two, Cristina Tchanichev and Oliveira went to three sets, but the Louisiana No. 2 slipped by Oliveira, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
- Moulin came back from a set deficit, conceding just four total games over the final two frames to clinch the match, downing Duncan, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
- Two other matches went unfinished, as Matko and Berratt were tied at a set apiece (6-7 (4), 6-1), while Prudente led Krecklenberg early in the first set (3-2).
