Bleckley Receives Fourth AAC Freshman of the Week Honor

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Defender Ava Bleckley was awarded the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week and while attackers Maddie Epke and Isabella Peterson received Honor Roll recognition, the conference announced on Monday.

Bleckley's fourth Freshman of the Week honor comes after standout performances against Virginia on Wednesday and Cincinnati on Saturday.

She recorded two ground balls and a caused turnover against the Cavaliers and secured three ground balls, caused four turnovers and collected two draw controls against the Bearcats. Her three ground balls on Saturday tied her career high, which she previously achieved against UAlbany on February 25.Â

Epke received her second AAC Honor Roll recognition of the season following her career day against Cincinnati.

In the matchup, she scored four goals, notched an assist, secured three ground balls, caused two turnovers and collected a career-high 14 draw controls. On Wednesday in Charlottesville, Epke scored once and recorded two ground balls, one caused turnover and nine draw controls.Â

Peterson's fifth AAC Honor Roll title this season was awarded after leading the Dukes offensively against both Virginia and Cincinnati.

She scored three goals, added an assist and tallied three draw controls against the Cavaliers. On Saturday, she found the back of the net five times, secured three ground balls, caused a turnover and collected four draw controls.

Peterson took a season-high eight shots on goal against the Bearcats, and her five goals, ten shots, two ground balls and one free-position goal all tied season-highs. Her three ground balls tied her career high.Â
