HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Head Field Hockey Coach
Christy Morgan has released the 2024 schedule, which features 18 games and the program's first season competing as an affiliate member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC).
Â
Of the 18 matchups, six are against teams which competed in the 2023 NCAA Field Hockey Championship. The Dukes host 12 home games at the JMU Field Hockey Complex, highlighted by a four-game homestand to begin the season. The 12 games in Harrisonburg are the most for the team since the 2015 campaign when they also hosted a dozen.
Â
"We are so excited to be a part of something bigger than us, as far as being in the MAC this year," Coach Morgan said. "I think we all have a greater appreciation than ever before because we had no conference affiliation for two years. Our schedule is exciting because we have some of the same opponents that we have had in the past, but we also have some institutions that we haven't played in a while. With some exciting new players, coaches and returning players that have great wisdom and desire, I feel great about the future of JMU!"
Â
JMU welcomes Villanova (Aug. 30), American (Sept. 6), Monmouth (Sept. 8) and William & Mary (Sept. 15) in non-conference play to kick off the fall.
Â
The Dukes will open MAC play on Friday, Sept. 20 with a trip to Miami (Ohio) for its first league showdown. They return home to host Cal on Sunday, Sept. 22 before stepping back into conference play for its first home MAC tilt against Central Michigan on Friday, Sept. 27. JMU closes the month with a trip to Charlotte, N.C., to face Queens on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Â
The Dukes open October with a trip to Ohio (Oct. 4) and a home game against Richmond (Oct. 6). JMU will remain at home to face conference foe Kent State (Oct. 11) and close the week at weekend at Old Dominion (Oct. 13). From there, Bellarmine (Oct. 18) and Wake Forest (Oct. 20) make its way to the Friendly City.
Â
After a week off, the Dukes head to Muncie, Ind., for a contest at Ball State (Oct. 27) and finish the month at home versus Liberty (Oct. 29). November will see JMU trek to Longwood (Nov. 1) before wrapping up the regular season against App State on Nov. 3.
Â
Following the regular season, the top-four teams in conference will qualify for the 2024 MAC Field Hockey Championship, which will be hosted by the top seed on dates to be determined later by the league office.
