GREENWOOD, Ind. – James Madison lacrosse senior Katelyn Morgan was recognized as a 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Second Team Academic All-American®, as the organization unveiled its Women's At-Large Team on Tuesday.
Â
Morgan becomes the first Academic All-American in three years across all sports and just the 22nd student-athlete in JMU history to garner Academic All-America® status, dating back to 1976. In total, 22 student-athletes have combined for 30 awards.
Â
The Marietta, Ga., native is just the third JMU lacrosse player to earn the distinction, joining Brooks Lawler (2016) and Gail Decker (2004).
Â
Morgan graduated from JMU this past spring with a bachelor's degree in general psychology while holding a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. A two-time winner of the JMU Casey Carter Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she was also one of the university's valedictorians in the graduating class.

Â
She completed her career with the Dukes ranking  ranked fifth all-time in program history in career assists (106). She also ranked tied for 12th in career points (193).
Â
Morgan, who was the only American Athletic Conference athlete to make the Academic All-America® At-Large Team, is one of just five Division I women's lacrosse players to be honored, as she was joined on the Second Team by Northwestern's Erin Coykendall. Additionally, Third Team honors went to Queens' Caroline Kraemer, Northwestern's Carleigh Mahoney and Boston College's Belle Smith.
