SPARKS, Md. – James Madison lacrosse attacker
Maddie Epke has been selected to the 2024 US U20 Women's National Team, as announced by USA Lacrosse on Tuesday.
Epke and the team will travel to Hong Kong, China to compete in the 2024 Women's U20 Championship from August 15 to August 25. The competition field consists of 20 teams from different countries around the world.
"I think it's a huge honor to play for our country and be chosen out of the best to go and compete," Epke said. "I'm excited to learn from new, great coaches and great players around me!"
The Guilford, Conn. native recently completed her sophomore campaign, setting the new JMU single-season draw control record of 178 while being ranked sixth in the nation in draw controls per game (8.90). She finished the season second on the team in five statistical categories including goals (57) and points (80).
Her record-breaking season led to countless postseason honors, including ILWomen All American Honorable Mention, USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention, IWLCA First Team All-South Region and American Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference.
Additionally, she was included on the 2024 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, named the IWLCA Division I Offensive Player of the week twice and garnered four AAC weekly awards.
Epke is set to face off against fellow JMU attacker
Hannah Lewis on August 17, as Lewis is competing in the tournament on the Puerto Rico National Team.
