No. 21 Dukes Utilizes Second Half Goals to Earn Road Win at The Mount

EMMITSBURG, Md. – No. 21 James Madison men's soccer utilized a pair of second half goals for its first road victory of the season, knocking off Mount St. Mary's, 2-1, on Tuesday night in rainy conditions at Waldron Family Stadium.

The Dukes improved to 3-0-3 and won their fifth straight in the all-time series, while the Mountaineers dropped to 0-5-2.

Redshirt senior Evan Southern paced the offense with four shots, putting three of the shots on goal. Junior Sebastian Conlon made two saves in a full 90 minutes of work in goal.

Quoting Head Coach Paul Zazenski
"Tonight was about getting a result, and we accomplished that. Our first half was not up to our standards, but we recovered and played a lot better in the second half. Some of our younger guys stepped up to seal the game with goals which was great to see. We now have to start to prepare for opening up Sun Belt play with a very good UCF side."

How It Happened

JMU had the first chance of the night 54 seconds in, with Southern's shot saved.
The Mount had the next three shots, but the JMU backline held strong.
Southern had another chance in the first half, hitting the post in the 32^nd minute with junior Kevin Larsson's shot on the rebound being saved.
JMU got on the board in the 57^th minute as senior Enrique Garcia Barelles sent a pass into the box to Southern, who heel kicked it to sophomore Jeffrey Aguilar. Aguilar then needed the one touch to bury his first career goal.
Four minutes and 24 seconds left, the Dukes doubled their lead as MSMU turned the ball over near the box and it took freshman Milo Wray one touch off the steal to find the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
MSMU got on the board in the 84^th minute off a header from a corner kick to make it a one-goal match at 2-1.
