MU HEADS TO OLD DOMINION FORÂ ROYAL RIVALRY MATCHUP
- James Madison will renew the Royal Rivalry with Old Dominion with a meeting on Saturday, Feb. 1. Action inside Chartway Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
- Last time out, Ashanti Barnes (15 points, 13 rebounds) and Peyton McDaniel (10 points, 10 rebounds) registered double-doubles, while four Dukes finished in double-figures as JMU rolled past Georgia Southern in a wire-to-wire 77-60 win on Wednesday night inside the new Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center.
- The Dukes out-rebounded the Eagles (9-13, 2-8 SBC) 49-to-33 for its 10th consecutive victory and remain perfect in Sun Belt play. JMU is 10-0 to begin conference action for the first time since starting 10-0 in the 2017-18 campaign as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
- James Madison owns three top-15 marks nationally: three-point percentage defense (6th - 24.3), defensive rebounds per game (7th - 30.4), and rebounds per game (13th - 43.14).
- Individually, back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week Peyton McDaniel is second in the league in scoring (17.6 ppg) and field goal percentage (51.2). McDaniel is the only DI player averaging over 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while hitting 45-plus threes.
- Old Dominion mounted a torrid comeback that brought a supportive Chartway Arena crowd of 2,502 to its feet, scoring 11 consecutive points to pull into a 62-62 tie with Georgia State with 2:31 left to play. But then the Monarchs went stone cold, missing their final six shots and fell to the Panthers, 66-62, Wednesday night to split the Sun Belt series with GSU.
- ODU boasts four top-50 marks in the country: offensive rebounds per game (5th - 17.1), rebounds per game (12th - 43.18), three-point percentage defense (40th - 27.3) and free-throw attempts per game (46th - 19.55).
LAST TIME VS. THE MONARCHS
- Peyton McDaniel surpassed 1,000 career points, as JMU held Old Dominion to just 25.0 (20-of-80) percent shooting to earn a 70-58 road win in the regular-season finale at Chartway Arena on March 1, 2024.
- McDaniel registered a 21-point outing, going 7-of-14 (.500) from the floor and 3-of-7 (.429) from three-point range. Annalicia Goodman finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in 27 minutes of action. Hevynne Bristow added eight points off the bench, while Ashanti Barnes paced all players with 11 rebounds.
ROAD DOGS
- Since joining the Sun Belt in 2022, the Dukes are 36-15 (.706) outside the friendly confines of the Atlantic Union Bank Center, highlighted by a 16-4 (.800) mark in the team's inaugural season in the new conference. The 12 true road wins that season tied the program record with the 2006-07 and 2014-15 seasons with marks of 12-5 and 12-1, respectively.
- JMU has won 11 of its last 12 true road games, most recently defeating Georgia Southern, 77-60, on Jan. 29. The lone loss was a 92-46 result at then-No. 6 Notre Dame on Nov. 13.
