JMU Takes on No. 4 Texas

AUSTIN, TEXAS – James Madison women's basketball will hit the road for the first time this season when it faces No. 4 Texas in the Lone Star State on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

LAST TIME VS. TEXAS

No. 4 Texas shot .540 (34-of-64) from the field and .529 (9-of-17) from three to cruise past James Madison, 93-62, in Harrisonburg on Dec. 8, 2024.
Ro Scott led all players with 22 points on 8-of-15 (.533) from the floor and dished out three assists in the loss.
The game featured 3,361 fans in attendance - the fourth-largest crowd for a women's game in the history of the Atlantic Union Bank Center (2020-Pres.).

THE DUKES VS. THE SEC

James Madison owns an 8-23 (.258) mark versus current Southeastern Conference opponents.
The Dukes own perfect marks against South Carolina (2-0) and Mizzou (1-0).
The last time JMU defeated an SEC foe, the Dukes turned 23 Florida turnovers into 24 points to come away with a 77-72 victory at the St. Pete Showcase on Nov. 29, 2024.
Peyton McDaniel led the Dukes with 20 points against the Gators, knocking down 6-of-15 (.400) from three and recording five steals on her way to being named to the St. Pete Showcase All-Tournament Team. Ro Scott finished with 12 points, including nine in the opening frame.

NCAA RANKING SUMMARY

Through Nov. 17 games, JMU owns four top-50 marks in the nation: steals per game (T-30th - 14.0), blocks per game (T-34th - 5.8), field goal percentage defense (44th - .316) and turnover margin (44th - +9.25).
Individually, Peyton McDaniel is tied for sixth in points (98), Bree Robinson is tied for eighth in steals (20), Ashanti Barnes is tied for 14th in rebounds (46), Zakiya Stephenson is tied for 30th in assists (24) and Brianna McLeod is tied for 37th in blocks (8).

ROAD DOGS

The Dukes went 12-2 in true road games and 2-2 in neutral matchups for a 14-4 (.778) record outside of the Atlantic Union Bank Center in 2024-25.
JMU was one of 10 Division I teams with at least a dozen road wins, with Portland (13) being the only program with more.

NON-CONFERENCE

James Madison's non-conference slate features four teams that competed in the 2025 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship: George Mason, Liberty, Texas and Notre Dame.
Meanwhile, four foes finished in the top 50 from the final NET rankings of the 2024-25 season: Texas (3), Notre Dame (4), George Mason (45) and Virginia Tech (47).
Four opponents were voted a top-two team in their respective preseason polls: Kent State (1st - Mid-American Conference), George Mason (2nd - A10), Liberty (2nd - CUSA) and Texas (2nd - SEC).
Lastly, Texas (#4) and Notre Dame (#15) were ranked in the AP Top 25 Preseason Poll on Oct. 14.
