HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison lacrosse earned the No. 18 ranking in the nation in this week's IWLCA Division I Poll, as announced on Monday.
The Dukes remain in the same position as their rank in the poll released on February 10th.Â
This follows a 2-0 week, featuring a comeback 15-11 win over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and an 11-8 win over UConn at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.
Against the Hokies, Savannah Derey and Maddie Epke led all players with six goals apiece. The six tallies were a career high for Derey, who previously had netted three goals on three occasions, while Epke dished out a game-best three assists to finish with a career-high nine points. Epke followed up that performance scoring four goals on six shots against UConn, with Derey and Olivia Matthews recording a pair of goals. Defensively, Caitlin Boden earned the win in cage, stopping 60% of UConn's shots on goal, and making 12 saves on 20 shots faced. She finished with three ground balls, second only to Reese Cuviello, who picked up four and also had three caused turnovers.
JMU is currently the only team from the American Athletic Conference ranked in the poll. Additionally, JMU is also ranked No. 18 in this week's USA Lacrosse Division I Women's Poll and No. 21 in Inside Lacrosse's Division I Poll.
The No. 18 Dukes resume game action next Wednesday, February 26th at 5 p.m. when they welcome No. 20 Richmond to Sentara Park for the home opener. The matchup will be streamed on ESPN+.
