HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Athletics, in coordination with the Sun Belt Conference, has announced its complete 2025 football schedule, which features 12 games with six at home and six on the road.
Â
JMU will take the field against four non-conference opponents, which were previously announced, as well as eight Sun Belt programs.
Â
All six home games will occur on Saturdays this upcoming Fall and those games include Weber State (Aug. 30), Georgia Southern for Family Weekend (Sept. 27), Louisiana (Oct. 11), Old Dominion for Homecoming (Oct. 18), App State (Nov. 15) and Washington State (Nov. 22).
Â
Road trips include Louisville (Sept. 6), Liberty (Sept. 20), Georgia State (Oct. 4), Texas State (Tuesday, Oct. 28), Marshall (Nov. 8) and Coastal Carolina (Nov. 29).
Â
The Dukes open the 2025 season on Saturday, Aug. 30 when they host Weber State out of the Big Sky Conference. It will be the fourth meeting between the teams, with JMU leading 3-0. Those three meetings all occurred while both squads were FCS members, which included a pair of FCS playoff games in 2017 and 2019. The two last met in 2021 when JMU won 37-24 in Ogden, Utah. The opener is also Hall of Fame Weekend at JMU.
Â
The following week, on Saturday, Sept. 6, JMU travels to Kentucky to take on Louisville of the Atlantic Coast Conference. It will be the teams' second meeting, as Louisville claimed a 34-10 win at home during JMU's first FBS season in 2022.
Â
After an open week, JMU stays in state, as it heads to Lynchburg, Va., for a matchup with Liberty out of Conference USA on Saturday, Sept. 20. This will be the first of six games between the two that are scheduled between 2025 and 2034. JMU leads the all-time series 12-6, but this will be the first showdown with Liberty since the 2014 FCS Playoffs.
Â
JMU returns home on Saturday, Sept. 27 for Family Weekend and its Sun Belt opener against Georgia Southern. The Eagles lead the series 9-2, but JMU is 2-3 in home games, which includes a 41-13 victory in Harrisonburg in 2023.
Â
The Dukes hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 4 for a matchup with Georgia State in Atlanta. JMU is 4-0 all-time against the Panthers following its 38-7 win at home last season. The next week, on Saturday, Oct. 11, JMU hosts Louisiana in the inaugural meeting between the teams.
Â
Homecoming Weekend takes place the ensuing weekend as JMU hosts in-state rival Old Dominion as part of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge. JMU leads ODU 3-2 all-time, with all three wins coming since JMU joined the Sun Belt in 2022.
Â
The Dukes have an extended break before embarking on their longest trip of the season and the program's first Tuesday night game. On Tuesday, Oct. 28, JMU travels to San Marcos, Texas, for a nationally-televised contest at Texas State. It will be the second meeting, as JMU defeated TXST 40-13 at home in 2022.
Â
JMU opens the final month of the season on Saturday, Nov. 8 at defending Sun Belt champion Marshall. MU leads the series 4-1, which included a 35-33 double overtime win for the Herd in Harrisonburg last season. JMU's lone win came in 2023 in Huntington.
Â
The Dukes return to Bridgeforth Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 15 to face off with App State. It's the 20th meeting between the squads, with App winning the past two matchups. Senior Day is set for Saturday, Nov. 22, as JMU hosts Washington State of the Pac-12 Conference. It's the first meeting between JMU and WSU, and this will be the furthest west team to ever visit Harrisonburg.
Â
JMU closes the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 29 in Conway, S.C., at Coastal Carolina. JMU is 4-1 against Coastal and has outscored the Chanticleers by a 142-28 margin since the Dukes joined the Sun Belt in 2022.
Â
The Hercules Tires Sun Belt Football Championship Game will be hosted at a campus site on Saturday, Dec. 6.
