NEW YORK – James Madison concluded the 2024-25 campaign winning 22 of its last 24 games to receive votes in the final USA TODAY Sports women's basketball poll, announced on Monday afternoon.
JMU (30-6, 18-0 SBC) earned three points, placing them as the eighth team outside the top 25. The Dukes were ranked as high as 28th in the poll on March 11, picking up seven points. The team also received votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll for five consecutive weeks (Feb. 17 – March 17).
The Dukes won a program-record 30 games – including 20 consecutive contests – and reached the Quarterfinals of the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT). JMU produced its fourth undefeated season in conference play, becoming just the eighth team in Sun Belt Conference history with a perfect record against league opponents since the league expanded to double-digit conference games in 1991-92.
Peyton McDaniel was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, while
Ro Scott was selected as Sixth Woman of the Year and Head Coach
Sean O'Regan was tabbed Coach of the Year in a vote by the league's 14 head coaches. McDaniel garnered All-Sun Belt First Team status along with center
Kseniia Kozlova, while forward
Ashanti Barnes landed on the Third Team.
