Barnes Signs With Eisvögel USC Freiburg

FREIBERG, Germany – James Madison women's basketball graduate Ashanti Barnes has signed a professional contract with Eisvögel USC Freiburg, as announced by the club over the weekend.
Eisvögel USC Freiburg competes in the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL), the premier division of basketball in Germany. The Kingfishers will open the 2026-27 season at home against Herner TC on Oct. 4.
Barnes averaged 11.0 points and 7.9 rebounds in 25.1 minutes per game over her three years in Harrisonburg. In her final season with the Dukes, she earned All-Sun Belt Second Team, Defensive Team, and Tournament Team honors, helping JMU capture the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Championship.
The Norfolk, Va. native produced 12 double-doubles in 2025-26, nearly averaging a double-double at 14.9 points and 9.1 boards per outing. This past season, Barnes was one of five Division I players to average at least 14 points and 9 rebounds while recording 80-plus assists.
Barnes wrapped up her career with the seventh-highest rebounding average (7.9 ppg), the eighth-most rebounds in a single season (317), and tied for the most rebounds in program history (825).
