Beginning in the 2019 football season, JMU Athletics introduced the adoption of a clear bag policy and the use of walkthrough metal detectors at all home football games. The implementation of the clear bag policy and metal detectors follows suit with many stadiums and sporting venues around the country, both at the collegiate and professional levels.
Beginning with the 2020-21 year, clear bags and walkthrough metal detectors will also be implemented at all home men's and women's basketball games at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
Clear Bags
Fans are asked to adhere to the policy by either leaving all prohibited, non-clear bags at home or in their vehicles, or by using the following guidelines:
Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to: non-clear purses, wallets or clutches larger than 4.5" x 6.5", coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.
Clear bags are on sale now at the JMU Bookstore.
Seat cushions and seat backs are permitted as long as they do not have pockets and are not in a carrying bag, are no wider than 18" and do not have armrests.
Items needed for small children must be in a clear bag that meets the stated dimensions.
Walkthrough Metal Detectors
Metal detectors will be deployed outside all stadium and arena entrances. Anyone entering Bridgeforth Stadium or the Atlantic Union Bank Center is subject to screening before scanning their game tickets. For guests who are unable to utilize a walk-through metal detector, hand-held metal detectors will be used.
Please note that in most scenarios, patrons may leave their jacket, shoes and belt on while only removing contents from their pockets (i.e. keys, cell phone, wallet).
