Availability: Fall - 6 to 8 positions, Spring - 1 to 3Â positions, Summer - hired on as-needed basis
Hours: Generally six-eight hours per week. Hours can include work both in and outside of the office environment. Hours can also include games depending sports season and level of experience.
Purpose:
- Assist supervisors with creation, maintenance, day-to-day operations of JMU athletic multimedia communications while enhancing portfolio skills, gaining insight and experience of the profession. Students will experience behind-the-scenes game day operations.
- Duties and supervisor will vary from student to student based on specific skill sets and interests and may or may not involve working JMU athletic events.
- Students will report to the Director of Athletics Creative Design, Drake Hébert
Potential Graphic Design & Social Media Projects: The following is a sampling of tasks assigned to practicum students.
- Graphic Design – Creation of graphic elements for social media, email, video boards, print materials, website and features.
- Photo Collection - Searching for photos (old and new) to be used in creative contentÂ
- Game Day - Documenting the behind-the-scenes and fan experience to utilize on social media.Â
- Additional Assignments:
- Using pre-made templates for graphics
- Evaluating social media, email and website analytics
- Monitoring social media trends and best practices
- Helping to develop a strategic plan to promote/announce upcoming events on all social platforms.
- Contribute innovative concepts and ideas
- Collaborate closely with the Creative Video Practices
Requirements:
- Interest in sports and more specifically in sport communication - best fit for practicum positions are sport communication minors and/or majors in sport management, communication, journalism, SMAD, or graphic designÂ
- Ability to work evenings and weekends if responsibilities include game coverage
- Preferred Skill Set: Experience in Adobe Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator preferred)
- Basic knowledge of communication platforms (social media, email, flyers, etc.)Â
- Interest in social media design and creation
- Applicant must be
