James Madison baseball Head Coach Marlin Ikenberry has rounded out his coaching staff for the 2025 season, announcing the addition of Brendan O’Donnell as an assistant coach on Sept. 20, 2024.
“Brendan brings a lot of baseball experience with him as he begins his coaching career,” Ikenberry said. “On top of being a collegiate baseball player for five years, he brings professional experience with him as he makes the transition from player to coach. We are excited he is remaining with JMU baseball and can’t wait for him to make an impact in his new role.”
O’Donnell finished out his collegiate career in Harrisonburg, starting in all 60 games that he played in with a slash line of .312/.399/.638. He recorded 38 of his 69 hits as extra bases, hitting two triples, 16 homers and 20 doubles. He scored 55 runs while notching 46 RBI’s, additionally stealing 12 bases.
After the 2024 season, O’Donnell signed with the Ottawa Titans of the Frontier League. Playing in 55 games with the Titans, he hit .294 with 10 home runs and 42 RBI’s. He also recorded two triples and seven doubles as he scored 31 runs.
Prior joining the Dukes for the 2024 season, O’Donnell completed a four-year career at Rider. He set a program record with 34 career homers as he hit .260 in 139 games with 124 starts. In addition to the long balls, he hit 28 doubles and knocked in 117 runs. He also recorded 100 runs scored.
O’Donnell completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration and sports management from Rider in 2023.
