Markus James is in his first season with the James Madison University football team in 2016 as the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning.
James comes to JMU from South Carolina State, where he has served in several strength & conditioning capacities since 2010.
He spent the last four seasons (2012-15) as Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach with the Bulldogs after being promoted from the assistant role, in which he served for one-and-a-half years (2011-12). James spent his first five months and the 2010 football season as an intern coach at SCSU, working as both a strength coach and defensive line coach.
James graduated from S.C. State in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in political science after enjoying a solid four-year football career with the Bulldogs. He won two straight MEAC championships (2008-09), advancing to the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs each season. As a senior defensive lineman in 2009, James was named to the All-MEAC Second Team.
In addition to his football duties, James will also be strength coach for the men’s and women’s golf teams at JMU.
