Michael Lago was hired on May 14, 2019 as James Madison University’s director of football video and creative media.
In his role, Lago will be responsible for branding and implementation of all graphics and videos for the football program while promoting the recruitment of future JMU student-athletes. Working in collaboration with the JMU athletics communications staff, he will help plan, manage and coordinate concepts for football that best promotes the program in all forms of digital media.
He will manage all coaches’ video, including cutups, importing and exporting of game and practice film and deliver cutting-edge design visuals for use of the staff in print, online and other marketing materials. Lago will also oversee the operation of the team’s student video staff.
Lago came to JMU following a short stint at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, where he served as a graduate assistant with the football team. During his time with the Horned Frogs, he was charged with all recruiting content creation and planning the creation and execution of football social media.
He’s no stranger to the Colonial Athletic Association, as Lago spent the 2018 calendar year at Rhode Island, where he was the creative media coordinator for the football program. During his time in Kingston, Lago coordinated the direction and creation of all photo, video and graphic content for URI football social media accounts. He was also in charge of multimedia content creation for recruiting and managed daily content posting, which including the coordination of roles and overall strategy on football game days.
Prior to Rhode Island, Lago spent three years at Western Connecticut State (2015-17), where he was social media coordinator both for the athletics department and the football program. He managed the daily operation and postings to WCSU football social media accounts and coordinated the creation and execution of all social content. In 2017, he assumed the role for the entire athletics department and oversaw all social-media responsibilities for every team.
Lago graduated with his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Endicott College in 2012.
