Former Liberty volunteer assistant coach Jayson Arrell has joined the James Madison men’s golf program as an assistant coach for the 2018-19 season, as announced by Head Coach Jeff Forbes on August 27, 2018.
“I’m very happy to welcome Jayson to the JMU Men’s Golf family,” Forbes said. “He brings a great set of skills from a strong program and we’re looking forward to him helping us take the next step as a program.”
Arrell has spent the last four years in Lynchburg with the Flames’ men’s golf program, including serving as the volunteer assistant coach for the 2017-18 season. While there, he managed recruiting databases, oversaw interns and other student workers and helped supervise team social media accounts, while contributing to day-to-day coaching and recruiting operations.
“I’m very excited to for the opportunity to join the JMU Men’s Golf program,” Arrell said. “This is a team that is trending in the right direction and we have a group of guys that I feel have the talent to be great for the foreseeable future.”
The Dukes will open their 2018-19 campaign with the Invitational at the Ocean Course (Sept. 9-11), returning to Kiawah Island Golf Resort after last year's edition of the event was cancelled due to severe weather. The Dukes will return all but three players from last season, while adding Ryan Cox, George Heath and Nick Schlickenrieder in the early signing period and Ignacio De Pineda during the spring to a team that led the 2018 CAA Championships through 36 holes before finishing fourth.
