Jason Sinkoff joined the James Madison men’s tennis staff as an assistant coach in August 2017 and wrapped up his fifth season with the program in 2022
During his time in Harrisonburg, the Dukes put together a 63-34 record (.649), which included four winning seasons and all five finishing at least with a .500 record.
Most recently, JMU finished 14-6 mark in 2021-22, as its .700 win percentage was the highest for the program in 32 years. The season capped off with Holden Koons becoming the program’s first player to ever win Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year. While coaching Koons, who also won CAA Co-Rookie of the Year in 2021, he reached the main draw at the 2021 ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, which was another first for the Dukes.
In four conference tournament appearances, JMU reached the semifinals twice – in 2018-19 and in 2020-21. That 2018-19 campaign saw the Dukes go 17-8 overall, which was the team’s most victories in 36 years and it finished seventh in the ITA Atlantic Region rankings.
In year one with the Dukes, they went 16-7, with Alvaro Arce winning CAA Rookie of the Year honors.
Sinkoff came to Harrisonburg after spending two seasons (2015-17) as head coach at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y.
Over his two seasons with the Seahawks, they earned a perfect APR score and set the program record for wins. Wagner also earned the Northeast Conference Sportsmanship Award both years.
Prior to his time at Wagner, Sinkoff spent three years at San Diego Mesa College assisting both the men’s and women’s tennis programs, as well as serving as Director of Basketball Operations.
While with the Olympians’ men’s tennis program, Mesa won back-to-back Pacific Coast Athletic Conference titles and advanced as far as the semifinals of the California Community College Athletic Association tournament.
Sinkoff began his coaching career as an assistant at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, California, where he was on staff to lead the team to the San Diego Section High School Championship. He has also had experience as the Director of Tennis for Camp Horseshoe (2014), Director of Tennis for JCC Maccabi Sports Camp (2015-2017) and DVD match analyst for the US Open (2012).
Sinkoff was a four-year tennis student-athlete at Hofstra (2009-12), serving as team captain while also working as media relations coordinator for the Pride's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
He graduated in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing with a minor in management. He later earned his Master's of Business Administration with an emphasis in management from Wagner in 2017, finishing No. 1 in his class with a 4.0 GPA.
