- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Cheryl Shockley is in her seventh year as an assistant coach with the JMU softball team.
Shockley joined the JMU staff in July 2001 after working the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at North Carolina Greensboro. She rejoined Katie Flynn, under whom she was an assistant for two years at UNC Greensboro.
Shockley works closely with the team's pitchers and outfielders. Under her tutelage, five JMU pitchers, Leah Conley, Nikki Dunn, Liz George, Jenny Clohan, and Meredith Felts have been named to the all-conference team. She also is heavily involved in recruiting and supervising the team's conditioning program. She is the assistant director for Skyline Softball Camps.
Shockley is a 1998 graduate of Elon College, where she played volleyball and softball. She was the softball team's captain in 1997 and 1998 and its most valuable player in 1998, when she ranked ninth nationally in strikeouts per game. She was a second-team All-South Atlantic Conference selection as a pitcher in 1996 and a two-year volleyball captain.
She received a bachelor's degree in accounting with a business administration minor.
Formerly Cheryl Denny, she married Greg Shockley in May, 2004.
