Emily Phillips
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
James Madison softball Head Coach Loren LaPorte announced the hiring of former player Emily Phillips as an assistant coach on June 20, 2024.
Â
"We are so excited to bring one of our own back into the program as she begins her coaching career," LaPorte said. "I truly believe Emily will be a bright young star in the coaching community based on her strong work ethic, dedication, and commitment. We can't wait to hit the ground running with Emily being a part of our staff."
Â
Phillips will work with the hitters with a focus on outfield development. The Chesapeake, Va. native was a catcher/outfielder for JMU from 2020-22, appearing in 96 games. After registering 10 home runs in 2022 to earn NFCA Second Team All-Region, Phillips transferred to McNeese State where she spent her last two seasons of eligibility.
Â
"I would like to express my gratitude to Coach LaPorte for giving me the wonderful opportunity to join this coaching staff," Phillips said. "I fully understand and embrace the expectations and championship mentality of our Dukes' softball program. Returning to the place where my college career began is truly exciting, and I am eager to contribute to our competitive edge as we strive to be a leader in the Sun Belt Conference. I am thrilled to be a Duke again and be back in the Valley. Go Dukes!"
