John Bilello was hired as an assistant director of athletics communications in June 2022 and serves as the primary contact for women’s basketball, field hockey, and track & field/cross country.
During his time at JMU, women’s basketball has captured two Sun Belt Conference tournament titles (2023, 2026) – earning automatic bids to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship – and won two Sun Belt Regular-Season titles (2023, 2025). He also helped organize the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships and the 2025 Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Championship held at JMU.
Prior to James Madison, Bilello was a graduate assistant in the Eastern Michigan Athletic Media Relations Office for two years (2020-22), where he was the primary contact for men’s and women’s track & field and cross country, and women’s lacrosse, while also assisting as the secondary contact for women’s basketball. While in Ypsilanti, Mich., he provided coverage for 2020 Olympians Donald Scott and Tori Franklin, and Paralympian Brittni Mason. With EMU’s addition of lacrosse as a varsity sport, Bilello helped establish branding and logos in preparation for the program’s inaugural season.
Before Eastern Michigan, he was a member of the Albion College lacrosse team (2016-19). The Britons won three consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association titles (2016-18) to receive berths into the NCAA Tournament.
Bilello earned a bachelor's degree in History and Communication Studies from Albion in May 2019, before receiving his MBA from Eastern Michigan in December 2022.
John is a native of Ann Arbor, Mich., and currently resides in Harrisonburg.
