James Madison women's basketball Head Coach Sean O'Regan announced the hiring of Evan Turkish as the Director of Player Development & Recruiting of the program on August 16, 2022.
In 2022-23, the Dukes went 26-8 (13-5 Sun Belt), capturing the Sun Belt Championship Tournament title and earing an NCAA Tournament berth. The squad led the league in scoring margin (+8.8), opponent field goal percentage (.361), opponent three-point percentage (.286), and rebounding margin (+8.1).
Turkish joins the Dukes following a season at Nicholls State University where he served as the assistant coach for the Colonels.
"My wife and I are so excited to be a part of the JMU community," said Turkish. "Virginia has always been a second home to me, and I am thrilled to be able to work for Coach O'Regan."
"We are lucky to add such a great basketball mind to our staff," added O'Regan. "Evan's experience with data analytics and coaching will be very helpful in making our program the best it can be. We were very excited to be able to add him to our staff."
In the 2021-22 season, Turkish mentored Chelsea Cain and Chyna Allen, who both ranked top five in the Southland Conference in points per game with 15.3 (2nd) and 14.0 (4th), respectively. As a recruiter, Turkish helped land a transfer from the Mountain West Conference, the top-rated transfer in school history.
Prior to his time in Thibodaux, La., Turkish worked as an analyst at Entergy, a Fortune 500 integrated energy company in New Orleans. There, he worked alongside developers to create automated solutions and improve efficiency.
Before entering the corporate world, he was the founder and owner of Sports Trainer Index, a platform to analyze collegiate athletic programs' recruiting needs and matched high school student-athletes with college coaches. Also during this time, Turkish served as an assistant coach at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans and for the Boo Williams AAU team in Newport News, Va.
Additionally, Turkish played was a member of the College of Charleston’s men’s basketball program for one season under Head Coach Bob Cremins.
