Jayla Davis joined the women's basketball staff on Aug. 25, 2023, currently serving as the team's coordinator of player engagement.

Davis spent the last two years a graduate assistant coach at Lynchburg, helping the Hornets reach the ODAC semifinals in the 2021-22 campaign. That season, senior guard Lizzie Davis was named to D3hoops.com’s All-Region VI Third Team after averaging 13.1 points, 5.9 assists and 4.8 rebounds per contest. Davis graduated from Lynchburg in spring 2023, earning a master’s in business administration with an emphasis in sport management.

The Hurt, Va. native was a guard at Sacred Heart between 2017-2021, becoming a consistent starter as an upperclassman. She played and started in all 18 games as a senior and led the team in steals (22) while averaging 8.6 ppg. As a junior, Davis set career highs in points (21) and assists (six) in an 84-63 win over St. Francis Brooklyn. She received a bachelor of science degree in sport management with a minor in sports media in May 2021.

Davis’ coaching experience includes working as a counselor coach at the Nike Girls Basketball Elite Camp from 2017-2019. This past spring, she also served as the head coach of the Saint Anne’s Bellfield middle school track & field program.

The JMU women's basketball team is coming off a 26-8 (13-5 Sun Belt) season that saw the Dukes capture the Sun Belt Championship Tournament title and earn an NCAA Tournament berth. The conference championship was the program's first since the 2015-2016 season as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
